Industrial Use and Medical Efficacy of Sodium Sulphate
QYJSSA/September 17,2022
Sodium sulphate(also known as hydrated sodium sulfate, Glauber's salt) - molecular formula: Na2SO4, molecular weight: 142.04, physicochemical properties: white or light yellow, appearance: granular crystalline or powder, taste: bitter and salty, heat absorption, relative density is 2.68, melting point is 884°C - which is soluble in water, the solution is alkaline and insoluble in ethanol. It is easy to absorb moisture when exposed to the air and become aqueous sodium sulfate.

In the Industrial Sodium Sulfate Standard No.: GB/T 6009-2014, which was drafted by major domestic sodium sulphate manufacturers including QINGYIJIANG SODIUM SULPHATE CO., LTD. (QYJSSA), it is mainly divided into three different grades:
1)Class Ⅰ first-class product: main content (note: the content of sodium sulfate) > 99.0
2)Class Ⅱ first-class product: main content>98.0
3)Class Ⅲ first-class product: main content> 95.0
1.the Industrial Use of Sodium Sulphate
In general, sodium sulphate has a wide range of applications, and can be used to make water glass, glass, enamel, pulp, refrigeration mixture, detergent, desiccant, dye thinner, analytical chemical reagent, pharmaceuticals, etc. Specific to different light industries and chemical industries, how and where is sodium sulphate used, the answers to these questions are often closely related to the grade of sodium sulphate.
Conventionally, Class Ⅰ first-class product which mentions before, mainly used in printing and dyeing, synthetic detergents, vinylon, etc. For your information, sodium sulphate is one of the main raw materials of washing powder or detergent. By adding sodium sulphate, the hand feeling is increased during the washing process, and it also acts as a desiccant to a certain extent.
Class Ⅱ first-class product is mainly used in glass, dye, paper and other industries. For example, in the printing and dyeing industry, sodium sulphate is mainly used as a dye accelerator for cotton dyeing. It can not only dissolve the dye better, but also increase the coloring rate of cotton substances to make the dyed color deeper and purer. Due to its special physical properties, sodium sulphate can even promote the fixation of dyes on high-grade fabrics such as silk.
Class Ⅲ first-class product is mainly used as raw materials for industries such as inorganic salts or as fillers for other products. For example, adding a certain proportion of sodium sulphate to building materials will have the effect of anti-freezing, while adding sodium sulphate to cement will quickly absorb excess water in the cement.
According to the relevant information provided by the National Bureau of Statistics and China Chemical Industry Information Center, we have made a rough distribution of the downstream industries of sodium sulphate, as shown in Table 1:

2.the Medicinal Efficacy of Sodium Sulphate
The medicinal effects of sodium sulphate have been discovered very early in ancient Chinese traditional Chinese medicine books. According to these books, the medicinal effects of sodium sulphate mainly include: purging heat and defecation, softening and dispelling knot, clearing heat and detoxifying, clearing lung and relieving summer heat, eliminating accumulation and stomach etc..
So, we are glad to share two tips for you to use sodium sulphate to "clear heat and detoxify". Usually, when we have sore throat and sore on the tongue due to excessive heat toxicity in the body, we can directly apply sodium sulphate to the affected area, which can not only clear away heat and reduce swelling, but also quickly relieve pain; the second is to grind sodium sulphate and add it to water and mix well, and to drip one to two drops a day into the eyes once or twice a day, then the redness and swelling of the eyes will quickly subside for three days in a row.
The effect of "eliminating accumulation and stomach" has also been widely recognized by the medical industry. Sodium sulphate can be used alone or in combination with the traditional Chinese medicine rhubarb during treatment. Last but not the least, the medicinal effect of sodium sulphate on promoting digestion and absorption has also been applied to the feed additive industry. Feed grade sodium sulphate of QYJ is increasingly being used as feed additives, which plays an important role in improving the digestion and absorption of nutrients in livestock and poultry to promote protein synthesis.
